Communicating & Staying Grounded in Times of Crisis
Navigate
Run a marathon, not a sprint
Make your messages do the (legal) work
Don’t overlook the behind the scenes
TL;DR
- Anti-rights movements are better funded and more coordinated than ever, so reactive communication alone will not cut it
- Map the hostile narratives in your context and find an anchor theme that connects to shared values your audience already holds
- Prioritise your own supporters first. A crisis shakes them more than it converts opponents
- Build messages that connect directly to the legal or policy changes you want to see
- Invest in behind-the-scenes relationships with journalists, allies, and officials. These matter as much as public statements
- The more groundwork you do before a crisis hits, the more options you will have when it does
